Preparation of Polypyrrole Nanoparticles with Different Types of Ionic Surfactants: Qualitative Study on the Relation between Morphology and Electrical Conductivities |

In this study, conducting polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles were prepared using cationic surfactant of tetradodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(TTAB) and anionic surfactant of sodium dodecyl sulfated (SDS). The nanostructures of PPy were determined by the type of surfactant used and the addition sequence of reactant. The SDS enhanced the electrical conductivity though it produced aggregated globular PPy nanostructures. On the while, discrete PPy nanoparticles that had low conductivity were produced when TTAB was applied. When the reaction sequence was changed, both spherical and amorphous structures were obtained. This changed morphology drastically reduced the electrical conductivity due to the amorphous structure with low conductivity. This morphology change was confirmed via size measurement and morphology observation. The outcomes of this study showed that the nanostructure of materials has highly influenced on the bulk physical property like conductivity. |
