Phthalocyanine (Pc) has an electron-rich aromatic structure and exhibits excellent optical property as well as and chemical stability. Numerous Pc derivatives have been proposed to exhibit energy or electron transfer due to the presence of highly conjugated ring systems. They have been frequently adopted in applications as chemical sensors and photosensitizers. In this study, we present the synthesis and properties of unsymmetrical zinc-phthalocyanine (ZnPc) derivatives having a siloxane end-group linked by the different alkyl chain spacers. Hence, ZnPc-immobilized polysiloxane surfaces were prepared through the sol-gel process with or without hydrolytic polycondensation of Si(OEt)4. The synthesized Pc compounds and the immobilized Pc surfaces were fully characterized by various characterization techniques, including UV-vis, PL, SEM, XPS and cyclic voltammetry. The effect of alkyl spacer length on the resulting optical and electrochemical properties of ZnPc was investigated as well. |
