Preparation of Thermoplastic Polyurethane Nanocomposites by Melt Compounding |

The polymer nanocomposite has been utilized for the application of packaging materials for food, cosmetics, and medicine. In this study, the thermoplastic polyurethane nanocomposites incorporated with modified montmorillonite(MMT) was prepared by using twin extrusion process. This melt compounded nanocomposites containing various nano silicate contentwere used to produce thin films with a thickness of about 60μm via castingsingle extrusion equipment attached with T-die. The dispersion state ofclays inthe nanocomposites wasobserved by TEM observationin conjuction with the XRD analysis.In addition, the effects of the incorporatedsilicate content on the mechanical tensileand rheological propertiesof the nanocomposite were investigated,yieldingan optimum formulation toachieve nanocomposte film with enhanced performance.The oxygen and moisture barrier characteristics of the nanocomposite films were alsostudied. |
