Polymer membranes with excellent thermomechanical properties and high gas separation performance are highly desirable for efficient CO2 separation. We have prepared a series of copolyimide membranes using PIM-PI-1, a hard segment for high CO2 permeability, and PEG/PPG, a soft segment for high CO2 selectivity. The corresponding PIM-(durene-PEG/PPG) membranes are expected to exhibit a combination of mechanical properties and high gas separation performances originated from the unique chain threading and the reinforcement between the spiro-unit of PIM and the flexible PEG/PPG at a molecular level. Synthesis, characterization, properties, and molecular simulation studies of copolymer membranes including gas separation performance will be discussed in detail |
