Synthesis of Cross-Linkable Polymers Containing Poly(ethylene glycol) and Cardanol Moieties and their Application to Solid Polymer Electrolytes for Lithium Secondary Batteries |

A series of copolymers (PHPs) composed of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PEGMA) and 2-hydroxy-3-cardanylpropyl methacrylate (HCPM) were synthesized via free radical copolymerization. The copolymers were characterized with 1H-NMR and applied to matrix polymer for solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) for lithium secondary batteries. Dimensionally stable films could be obtained by UV curing to initiate the cross-link reactions of cardanol moieties. As the content of cardanyl moieties decreased, the ionic conductivity of the prepared SPEs increased due to the higher segmental mobility. The maximum ionic conductivity of 2.6 X 10-5 S/cm at 30 oC and 2.5 X 10-4 S/cm at 60 oC was obtained with PHP containing 8 mol % of HCPM among the prepared SPEs. Linear sweep voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge cell test were performed to investigate the feasibility of PHPs to SPEs for lithium secondary batteries |
