Electrohydrodynamic jetting method can subjugate the surface tension without any chemical treatments, merely by using the electrostatic force. This technology can easily fabricate polymeric fibers or particles of various sizes and morphologies. Recently, this interesting technique has been extended to produce more advanced nano-structures such as hollow, porous, ribbon fibers, or biphasic Janus nanoparticles. In this study, countercharged electrohydrodynamic double jetting technique was developed, which is based on the neutralization of charged polymeric fibers by countercharged materials. Hydrophobic polystyrene particles of nano- to micro-sizes were anchored on the hydrophilic surface of polymethylmetacrylate nano- or micro-fibers. Also, small organic molecules were successfully coated on the PMMA fibers. These results suggest that the countercharged double jetting can provide a novel way to prepare composite nanostrucutures without a significant dependence on the kind of materials. |
