Effects of Molecular weights of PLGA on Release Behavior of Doxorubicin for Double-layered PLGA Microspheres |

Doxorubicin acts as an anticancer agent that is rapidly distributed in humans and is accumulated in irrigated tissues such as liver, lung, kidney, etc. and especially heart. Double-layered microspheres fabricated relatively simple oil-in-water (O/W) solvent evaporation method and recognized the release behavior according to PLGA molecular weight and concentration and initial drug loading. Double-layered microspheres showed smooth surfaces and clear difference between inner-shell and outer-shell. In addition, the trend of wall-thickness change given by different PLGA molecular weight and concentration changed. The in vitro drug release profile showed a sustained release up to 35 days. According to PLGA molecular weight increased, the release rate of doxorubicin loaded double-layered microspheres decreased. These results showed that the variations of concentration and molecular weights of PLGA can be controlled the release behaviors. |
