Size-Controlled Au and Ag Nanoparticles for Enhancing the Performance of Organic Light Emitting Diodes |

We developed a dual-metal, nano-particles (NPs) approach using Ag and Au NPs to significantly enhance the device performance in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Our approach exploited the high-scattering power of Ag NPs with broadband spectral response combined with the advantage of Au NPs to accelerate the radiative emission rate of the emitters. The luminous efficiency of the green light-emitting OLED device with dual-metal NPs exhibited 33% and 22% enhancement of luminous efficiency over the efficiencies of devices that used only Au NPs or Ag NPs, respectively. Therefore, for the first time, we demonstrated a successful example of using dual-metal NPs in OLEDs to simultaneously enhance both the internal quantum efficiency (IQE) by synergistic effects of localized surface plasmon (LSP) resonance by dual metal NPs and the light extraction efficiency (LEE) by Ag NPs. In addition, detailed studies, including near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM) were performed. |
