Fluorescence Polymer Dots Encapsulated Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticle as Simultaneous Diagnosis and Therapy |

An Indocyanine-Green (ICG)-loaded fluorescence polymer dots (PD) encapsulated by mesoporous silica nanoparticle (MSN) for simultaneous pH-sensitive diagnosis and photothermal therapy has been designed. The electrostatic interaction and π-π stacking between MSN core filled by PD and ICG provide effective loading which changes the fluorescence of the system from “ON” to “OFF” (quenching). Tuning the pH to acidic changes the fluorescence signal resulting in increasing of intensity (ON) of the system and induces ICG release from MSN core. In tumor condition, the photo-thermal conversion demonstrates enough heat generation to force the cell to undergo necrosis. Differently, the cells show a high percentage of survivability when irradiated with NIR at physiological pH thus confirming the selectivity of the designed system to tumor condition and suggested the possibility for biomedical application.
