제목 Flame-retardant mechanism of expandable polystyrene foam with hybrid flame retardant
초록 Despite great advances, fire safety is a permanent challenge in expanded polystyrene foam. To overcome the issue, we have prepared the Methylene diphenyl diisocyanate coated expandable polystyrene microsphere by a simple chemical approach. Hybrid flame-retardant materials were successfully fabricated and coated on the surface of EPS foam to achieve excellent flame retardancy. The microscopic study reveals that the EPS surface is uniformly coated with MDI and hybrid flame-retardant materials successfully encapsulate on MDI coated EPS microsphere. The cone calorimeter test indicate that MDI coated hybrid flame retardant EPS foam exerts the highest flame retardancy, evidenced by THR (7.4 MJ/m2), HRR (48.2 kW/m2), and FIGRA (1722.45 W/m-2s). Above results indicate that hybrid flame-retardant materials have best suitability towards commercialization.
