제목 Electroluminescence from hydrogen bonded discotic liquid crystals
초록 The continued dominance of LCDs in the flat panel display is now being challenged by rapid improvements in organic light emitting display (OLED), an emissive and potentially more efficient display technology. Most OLEDs are made of several layers; hole transporting layer, emitting layer, and electron transporting layer. To make them into less layered devices, there have been many researches for introducing liquid crystal properties to the luminescent materials, because liquid crystal phase shows good charge mobility1.
We synthesized emitting material, 4-(4-(3,4,5-trialcoxystyryl)styryl)pyridine, and then prepared a discotic liquid crystal complex (DLC) of 4-(4-(3,4,5-trialcoxystyryl)styryl)pyridine and benzene-1,3,5-triol by hydrogen bonding which is a powerful tool to make supramolecular structures. DLCs orient in columns and can act like an effective molecular wire with greater hole or electron mobility2. Characterization of DLC was done by NMR, DSC, IR and XRD. And then properties of photoluminescence and electroluminescence were measured.
