LiFePO4 is the most promising cathode material, especially for electric vehicle (EV) because of its inexpensive cost and its superior thermal and structural safety, and its non-toxicity. Although LiFePO4 has been believed to be a poor conductor due to its low electronic conductivity and 1D lithium diffusion, nano-sized LiFePO4 particles show the fastest electrochemical reaction among known cathode materials. To understand this intriguing behavior, phase transition behavior during charging/discharging should be considered. In this talk, I will briefly talk about recent progresses for identifying phase transition mechanism with in-situ techniques and discuss about limitations of in-situ techniques. And then, I will present the alternative way, thermal treatment, to identify phase transition behavior. |
