Due to the recent depletion of fossil fuels, biomass as an alternative resource have attracted considerable attention. Because fossil resources are mainly composed of hydrocarbon, a reaction such as deoxydehydration (DODH) to eliminate oxygen-contents present in most biomass-derived materials is needed. Accordingly, we have studied some DODH reactions, especially using rhenium (Re) catalysts to produce adipic acid from galactose. Although oxo-rhenium catalysts are efficient in the DODH reactions, the high price and rarity of the catalysts are the major drawbacks. In this regard, we introduced the new method to recycle the Re catalysts using ionic liquid-mediated DODH reactions and it has been shown through experiments that the Re catalysts were reusable with a homogeneous ionic liquid support. |
