The mechanical properties and morphology of poly(ethyl acrylate-co-acrylate), PEAA, and poly(ethyl acrylate-co-itaconate), PEAITA, ionomer blends were investigated. It was found that the compositional variation of the ionomer blends did not affect the matrix and cluster Tgs of the two ionomers consisting of the blends. However, the ionomer blends showed two ionic plateaus, and the changes in the two ionic moduli of the blends were directly related with the relative amounts of the two ionomers. Therefore, it was suggested that the PEAITA/PEAA ionomer blends acted not as miscible blends but as phase-separated composite materials. The x-ray scattering and electron microscopy data also indicated that the morphology of the ionomer blends in nano- and micro-meter scales was not changed by the mixing process of the two ionomers. |
