Polyurethane (PU) energetic binders are prepared with azido-pendant prepolymer plasticized by multi-level ring strain energy (RSE) groups embedded active plasticizers (APs). These APs are utilized in this study since cyclic alkyl groups are expected to be a potential energetic candidate as well as lower impact sensitivity than conventional energetic groups such as nitro, nitrite and nitrate. To solve the migration and exudation of conventional energetic plasticizers, a highly reliable and practical reaction, Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition, was employed as a coupling protocol to achieve the chemical connection with polymeric matrix. APs are successfully applied into azido prepolymer-based PU binder systems by improving processibility, forming well-dispersed morphology, being manipulable pot life, achieving perfect integrity with polymer matrix, maintaining thermal stability and mechanical properties of pristine binder as elastomer. |
