High Aspect Ratio Polymer Nanowire for High Performing Field-Effect Transistor and Phototransistor |

In the case of donor-acceptor (D-A) conjugated polymers, it is difficult to fabricate single-crystalline objects and study their intrinsic properties on the nanoscopic scales owing to their chain disorders and undesirable impurities. Here, we synthesized D-A conjugated polymers of different molecular weights (MWs) by Soxhlet extraction using various solvents. Then, the low- and high-MW polymers were investigated in their intrinsic material properties. Precisely self-assembled high aspect ratio polymer nanowires made from the low-MW polymer were employed in field-effect transistors to observe the unique charge transport property. An unprecedentedly high carrier mobility of around 24.0 cm2 V-1 s-1 was obtained in FET devices. PNW-based phototransistor also showed very high photoresponsivity (Rmax ~1920 A W−1). The highly ordered single-crystalline polymer nanowires displayed much better electronic and optoelectronic device performance compared with thin-film-based devices. |
