Some block copolymers are attractive and characterized by theirs thermoplastic and elastomeric behaviors.They are made of amorphous block with low glass transition temperature (Tg) and block with has high Tg.For the poly(Isobutylene-block-Styrene) (PIB-PS) diblock copolymer,PIB block shows low Tg,good stability and low gas permeability while PS block has high shock-resistance, high Tg,and easy-forming with no high cost. Therefore PIB-PS block copolymer can show advanced properties by combining advantages from both blocks.By varying the ratio of two blocks,a wide range of phase behavior and mechanical properties can be achieved,opening the door for a lot of applications.Here,controlled/living cationic polymerization was used to synthesize PIB-PS by sequential addition of isobutylene,and followed by styrene.The nanostructure formed by PIB-PS diblock copolymer was charaterized by small-angle X-ray scattering as a function of temperature and the ration of both block. |
