Preparation of thermo-responsive hydrogel nano/microcapsules by microencapsulation using surface-modified nano/micro silica as templates |

Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) hydrogels show a sharp volume phase-transition at the LCST and a response to temperature change. Nano/micron-sized particles of temperature sensitive hydrogels are expected to exhibit very sharp transition or response to changes in environmental conditions. To obtain latex particles containing a single core, aggregation of silica particles and composite particles were avoided during the encapsulation process. The silica core composite particles with PNIPAAm hydrogel shell were prepared by using the method of electrostatic repulsion between particles. The nano/micro capsules which were prepared from the composite particles were studied in terms of properties and morphology. Modification and removal of silica core were confirmed by FT-IR spectra. The particle size was analyzed by using the dynamic laser scattering paticle size analyzer. The particles morphology was confirmed by the polarized microscope, SEM, and TEM. |
