High Photocatalytic Performance of Bi2O3/TiO2 composite for Sulfamethozazole Degradation under UV-Visible Light Irradiation |

Bi2O3/TiO2 composites with different Bi2O3/TiO2 weight ratios were synthesized by conbination of hydrothermal treatment and calcination method. The 30%Bi2O3/TiO2 exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance in the sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) degradation under irradiation of 150 W Xenon lamp with nearly 90% SMZ removal after 120 min, as compared to bare Bi2O3 and TiO2. The effect of catalyst dosage, pH and SMZ concentration on the efficiency of photocatalytic activity of Bi2O3/TiO2 composites was also investigated. The improvement in photocatalytic activity of Bi2O3/TiO2 composites could be given by the synergism of absorption of visible light confirmed by UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra and the increased lifetime as evidenced by photoluminescence spectra. The degradation pathway of SMZ was also predicted based on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer analysis. |
