In this work, poly(vinylpyrrolidone) and carboxymethyl chitosan based scaffolds were fabricated using irradiation technology. Hydrogels were analyzed for swelling characteristics in distilled water, buffer solutions and electrolyte solutions. Apart from these, thermal, chemical, drug release, in-vitro cytocompatibility assay, and morphological aspects were also evaluated. SEM micrographs exhibited interconnected and porous morphology of the prepared hydrogels. TGA thermograms shown good thermal properties of the prepared hydrogels. In-vitro cytocompatibility assays shown excellent cell viability on macrophage RAW 264.7 cells and anticancer efficacy on stomach cancerous AGS cell lines. In-vitro drug release of antibiotic drug in phosphate buffer solution (pH = 7.4) manifested > 90 % release. These scaffolds have excellent potential to be used in various biomedical applications. |
