Electrospinning (ES) is a very simple process for fabricating polymeric nanofibers. However, continuous fiber alignment on substrates in the form of straight lines is difficult by using common ES equipments and processes. We have developed a robotic near-field electrospinning (NFES) equipment and process to fabricate the patterned arrays on substrates. Unlike normal ES process, control of fiber diameter to sub-micrometer scale is difficult in NFES process. We have successfully fabricated the aligned patterns of poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) nanofibers by controlling NFES conditions. By doping the PVK nanfiber with emitting dopants, we have fabricated well-aligned, multi-colored nanofibers due to the Frster energy transfer between PVK and the emitting dopants. We have characterized the photoluminescence from the various fibers. |
