Effects of Incorporation of Apatitic Ceramic Particles in Chitosan Scaffold |

Porous scaffolds are one of essential tools in the field of tissue engineering. A number of materials have been utilized in the preparation of 3D scaffolds which can be used to fill the empty space of damaged tissue and buster the rate of tissue regeneration. Bone substitutes need to be strong enough to be used in load bearing applications. On the other hand, polymeric 3D scaffold can promote cellular responses quicker than conventional materials, such as metallic and ceramic materials. Attempts have been devoted to development of scaffolds with improved biofunctionality. In this study, we prepared a chitosan scaffold incorporated with apatitic ceramic particles for the purpose of improving biocompatibility and bone regeneration capability. The structural natures and chemical and physical properties were examined using analytical methods, including SEM, FTIR, and EDS. |
