Ionic liquid assisted fluidic exfoliation and functionalization of 2D nanosheets |

To expand the applications of 2 dimensional (2D) nanosheets, the development of exfoliation method is important due to the scalability, productivity, quality and adaptability. Some solution based exfoliation methods use toxic solvents and stabilizers which presents limitations in the application. We report a water‒based eco‒friendly exfoliation method of 2D materials with high efficiency and quality using Taylor‒Couette flow induced fluidic force and ionic liquid (IL). IL assisted fluidic exfoliation method shows high yield up to 28.9% together with the excellent stability either in water solution with dried powder state. Moreover, IL assisted exfoliation with stabilizing agent can be directly applied to the applications without post‒process. We applied exfoliated 2D nanosheets in filtration and inkjet print. Exfoliated graphene film showed excellent mechanical and electrochemical performances for supercapacitor. Also 2D nanosheet inks showed possibility of inkjet printing maintaining an inherent property of 2D nanosheets.
