제목 Preparation of polymeric nanophotosensitizers for photo-triggered immunotherapy of cancer
초록 Cancer immunotherapy (IT) is a treatment that activates the body’s immune system to help fight cancer, and photodynamic therapy (PDT) is another cancer treating modality using photosensitizers. Since PDT treatment is known to induce immunogenic responses in the body, a combined therapy of PDT and IT has emerged as a promising cancer treating modality. In this approach, systemic immunogenic responses promoted by topical PDT treatment can provide efficacious treatment of small metastatic tumors as well as primary tumors. Here, we devised a polymeric nano-photosensitizer with encapsulation of a porphyrin derivative for the combined therapy. The phototoxicity and the immunogenic responses during/after PDT treatment using the nano-photosensitizer was evaluated in vitro on melanoma cells and in vivo on a mouse model of melanoma. Finally, we demonstrated that the combined therapy using the nano-photosensitizer is indeed operative for the efficacious cancer treatment.
