Experimental data on the formation kinetics of carbon dioxide hydrate from gaseous carbon dioxide were obtained at several temperatures from 273.15 to 277.15 K and at three pressures of 3.4, 3.0 and 2.5 MPa. In addition, to determine the electrolyte effect on the formation kinetics experimental data of carbon dioxide amount consumed during the hydrate formation in aqueous NaCl solutions were also obtained at 3.0 MPa. The NaCl concentrations in aqueous liquid were 1 and 5 mass %. The kinetic model developed in this work was based on the adsorption theory and had only one adjustable parameter of the formation rate of carbon dioxide hydrate. The difference between the fugacity of the dissolved gas and the H-Lw-V three-phase equilibrium fugacity was used as the pressure effect term in this model. The proposed model was found to describe the experimental data very well. It was indicated that the presence of electrolytes could inhibit the formation rate of carbon dioxide hydrate considerably.
