제목 Thermal Stability of Polymer-Carbon Nanotube Composites
초록 The thermal stability of poly (methyl methacrylate) based composites containing various concentrations of pristine carbon nanotubes (CNTs) ranging from 0.01 wt% to 10 wt% was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis method under dynamic heating condition. , The activation energy of the composites was calculated by Freedman method using various heating rates as a function of CNT concentration. As the concentration of the CNTs increases, the activation energy of the composites for thermal degradation increases. The degradation amount of the polymer matrix decreased. However, when the concentrations of CNT were higher than 0.5wt%, the reinforcement effects were somewhat saturated. We also studied the thermal effects when the surface of CNTs was modified by acid treatment. The results show that the acid treated CNTs give better thermal stability to the polymer matrix, even though we found that the CNTs were seriously shortened. It is attributed to chemical interaction between poly (methyl methacrylate) matrix and functionalized groups on the CNTs surface.
