The systematic combination of biodegradable polymers, calcium phosphates (CaP), and BMP-2 is recognized as a useful approach to produce high-performance bone-regenerative scaffolds. Herein, we report on porous poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) microspheres with surface-immobilized n-HAp that can release BMP-2 in a controlled manner. For enhancing bone regeneration, surface-immobilized n-HAp and BMP-2 are expected to exhibits each inherent function: N-HAp may contribute to the initial cell attachment and proliferation by offering the cell-friendly environments. In addition, the released BMP-2 can induce the stem cell differentiation to osteoblasts, and the prolonged release induces the mature bone formation. In this work, we demonstrated the synergistic effect of BMP-2 with surface-immobilized n-HAp on in vitro osteogenic potentials. |
