Block copolymers allow hierarchical supramolecular control over the spatial location of their functional component blocks as well as various nanoscale objects. In this talk, we will discuss the precise control of nanoobject arrays within a block copolymer template as well as their applications using two different examples: (1) polymer coated nanoparticles and nanorods for surfactants and (2) phosphorescent emitters for solution processed white LEDs. In the first example, the precise controlled nanoparticles are used as surfactants in two different systems of block copolymers and polymer blends. In the second example, we have explored the use of block copolymers as active materials for WOLEDs in which phosphorescent emitter isolation can be achieved. Our approach minimizes energy transfer between two colored species by site isolation through morphology control, allowing higher loading concentration of red emitters with improved device performance. |
