Despite the universal usage of the gold substrate in analytical devices, preventing biofouling on gold surface in simple and efficient way is still required. In this research we synthesized a zwitterionic small molecule capable of stably immobilizing on the gold surface. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometer (MS) was used to confirm whether the zwitterionic small molecule was well synthesized. A gold surface was simply immersed into the solution of zwitterion molecule, and the surface properties were characterized by contact angle measurement and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). As a result, zwitterionic small molecule was successfully immobilized on the gold surface, and the contact angle was decreased to about 20 degree. Anti-biofouling property was confirmed by means of FITC-labelled bovine serum albumin (BSA) adsorption test. Consequently, amount of adsorbed protein was significantly decreased compared to non-treated gold surface. |
