Synthesis and Properties Investigation of Block Copolymer of Bisphenol Polycarbonate with PMMA |

Polycarbonate has good mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties. It is being applied in various fields. However, it has a disadvantage about surface scratch. Our study is to improve scratch properties for using in automobile, sheet, and electric equipments. Block copoylmer was synthesized by interfacial polymerization followed by end groups substitution with crotonyl group, and PMMA attahment. The interfacial polymerizations were performed in methylenechloride and water using triphosgene, triethylamine (TEA). Polymer of hydroxy functional group was converted into crotonyl form with crotonyl chloride. Chemical structure and thermal properties of block copolycarbonate was measured by 1H NMR, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The anti-scratch property was assessed by pencil hardness testing. |
