Stem cell-engineered artificial nanovesicles for treatment of CNS injuries |

Intensiveresearch on extracellular vesicles (EVs) has revealed their biological aspects andopened up new avenues for their application in regenerative medicine. As a novel tissue regenerative strategy, application of stem cell-derived EVsfor treatment of central nervous system (CNS) injuries has drawn much attention. Herein, in vivo systemic delivery of magnetic nanoparticle-harboring artificialnanovesicles isolated from mesenchymal stem cells, and their therapeuticeffects in CNS lesions are presented. Fabricated nanovesicles were intravenously injected to CNS injury models; spinalcord injury and ischemic stroke model. Magnetic guidance markedly enhanced the targetingefficacy of injected nanovesicles toward injured spinal cord and ischemic brain.The results collectively demonstrate that artificial nanovesicles can beserved as therapeutic agent capable of precise targeting the CNS lesion. Theirapplication may be a potential new therapy for CNS injuries. |
