제목 | Effect of cellulose nanocrystals on mechanicalproperties of biodegrdable polycaprolactone nanocomposites |
초록 | Environmentalpollution has become a great concern due to enormous plastic waste in dailyuse. One of the solutions to this problem is to replace conventionalnon-biodegradable plastic with the biodegradable plastics such as Polycaprolactone(PCL). However, it has poor mechanical properties and cost advantages comparedto non-degradable plastics. Inthis study, a biodegradable and renewable Cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) wasincorporated into PCL. The nanocomposite was formed by in situ polymerizationof an ε-caprolactone solution in which CNC was uniformly dispersed using asolvent replacement method. This method was studied by maximizing reinforcementeffects with only a small amount of CNC. Therefore, this composite had ultimatetensile strength (UTS, 61 MPa) and elongation at break (1,340%). Compared tothe tensile toughness of Neat PCL, this composite exhibited a 1.6-, and1.7-fold increase in tensile toughness and tear toughness, respectively. |
