Recently polymer solar cells have been attractively considered as a promising alternative for renewable energy sources because of their potential advantages for low-cost manufacturing and various solar module shapes. A variety of combinations for donor and acceptor materials have been attempted for the BHJ layers of solar cells. In terms of donor materials, conjugated polymers are predominantly contributed to the improved efficiency up to ~8%. Very recently, a couple of studies have been initialized for bestowing more functionality to fullerene derivatives. In this work, series of fullerene derivatives have been synthesized by controlling the length of alkyl groups to investigate the relationship between photovoltaic properties and molecular structure of fullerene derivatives. Here we will present the electrochemical and photophysical properties of new fullerene derivatives with different alkyl groups and discuss on the effect of alkyl chain length on the device performance. |
