제목 | Visualization of cholesterol crystal kinetics and removal: Implication for steatohepatitis and cholelithiasis |
초록 | Cholesterol is an essential component of cell membranes and performs critical roles in body. When body cholesterol level rises, crystallization starts, and these cholesterol crystals (CC) are the cause of several diseases such as steatohepatitis, and cholelithiasis. In this research, oil-water system is prepared to form crystals on interface and try to inhibit, remove them. Also, cholesterol derivatives such as ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), provitamin D3, and cholecalciferol, change the shape of the crystals or delayed crystallization. Comparing crystal size, shape, and density per area versus time, our result claims that cholesterol derivatives affect the kinetics of cholesterol crystallization. Based on the spectroscopic data and observation, we expect that prescribing cholesterol derivatives to patients suffering from cholesterol-related diseases may have a pharmacological effect.
