Solvent swelling treatment of P3HT:PCBM film leads to a marked increase in the ordering of P3HT as observed by AES, UV-vis absorption spectra and AFM. The more ordered structure provides better transport for holes through the more crystalline P3HT and electrons via hoping through the PCBM, comparable to what occurs during thermal annealing. Efficient solar cells based on P3HT:PCBM blend are realized by a combination of solvent swelling treatment and thermal annealing. It is found that the P3HT chains can self-organize into the ordered structure under the acetonitrile solvent swelling treatment, and the optical absorption and the hole transport are enhanced. Further annealing of the Solvent swelling-treated film can effectively improve phase-separated networks for efficient charge separation and transport. Compared to the control device that is merely annealed, the optical absorption, Jsc, and PCE are increased for solvent swelling -treated solar cell. |
