Various physicochemical properties of block copolymers have been extensively studied in recent years because of a growing interest in potential applications of such polymers. Telechelic polymers containing functional (reactive) end groups are useful in preparation of block copolymers. In this work, block copolymers were synthesized by two types of telechelic polymers, polyisoprene functionalized with anhydride group and poly(arylene ether) functionalized with diamine group. Block copolymers were then modified by selective sulfonation of isoprene domain, leading to amphiphilic polymers consisting of hydrophilic/hydrophobic block copolymers. Amphiphilic polymers are useful for biomedical materials, polymer electrolyte membrane, nano materials, and so on. Among amphiphilic block copolymers, the properties on polymer electrolyte membranes were studied. |
