Depositing metal nanoclusters to hollow conducting polymer nanoparticles: High-performance electrode material candidates |

There has been burgeoning interest in nanostructured electrodes that can provide high energy density and excellent rate capability for effective electric energy storage. Here, we present the fabrication of hybrid polypyrrole (PPy) hollow nanoparticles whose both inner/outer surfaces were decorated with metal nanoclusters. The size of the hollow nanoparticles was controlled by adjusting the concentration of an anionic surfactant. The deposition of metal nanoclusters was achieved by two different routes: electrodeposition and chemical deposition. The basic electrochemical properties of the hybrid hollow nanoparticles depended on their diameter. As the electrode material, importantly, the hybrid hollow nanoparticles showed longer cycle life and enhanced specific capacitance compared with pure PPy nanoparticles. |
