Polyolefin is one of the most widely used materials due to its low cost and excellent properties. However, applications of polyolefin are limited because of its low functionality. In this study, grafting of functional compound onto polyolefin was examined through model reactions. Pentadecane, a model compound of polyolefin, was grafted through solution reaction with dibenzyl trithiocarbonate (DBTTC). The characteristics of the grafted compounds were investigated by using proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. The effect of the reaction temperature on the grafting efficiency was also studied. |
