The excessive use of fossil fuels has caused serious climate change problems and biorefining techologies for producing bioenergy have been attracting attention as an alternative to cope with such climate change. The use of synthesis gas for the biofuel production has some advantages; the reduction of the atmospheric greenhouse effect and economical procedure. Anaerobic acetogenic bacteria can convert synthesis gas compsoed of CO,CO₂, and H₂ to ethanol and acetic acid. In this study, we used Clostridium autoethanogenum as biocatalyst for conversion from synthesis gas to bioethanol and acetic acid. We investigated to the effect of culture medium components such as D-Ca-pantothenate (a water soluble vitamin), vitamin B₁₂ (cobalamin) on growth and product formation. We also tried to evaluate productivity Na2S∙9H20 on growth and product formation. Ethanol productivity, acetic acid productivity, and ethanol to acetic acid ratio were compared according to individual operating factor. |
