Due to environmental considerations, the interest in biodiesel production has shifted to the use of heterogeneous catalysts. This is due to easier catalyst removal, reusability of the catalyst and less corrosive character of heterogeneous catalysts. Also, using heterogeneous catalyst is expected to make good separation of biodiesel and glycerol in ethanol-based biodiesel. In this study, heterogeneous catalyst is used to get good separation, because the ethanol-based biodiesel using homogeneous catalyst presented poor separation of biodiesel and glycerol in the former study. Heterogeneous catalyst is made by using metal oxide involved calcium at 700℃ and 900℃. Hammett indicator is used for measuring base value of catalyst. These catalysts are used for ethanol based biodiesel to evaluate separation and FAEE yields. The biodiesel is made at 60℃ of reaction temperature, 60 minutes of reaction time, and 300rpm of stirring speed with some of catalyst/oil mass ratio. |
