Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is the most widely used silicone based polymer in industry with unique properties such as non-toxic and non-flammable, leading many researches for preparing polyurethane (PU) flame-retardant with PDMS. However, due to the polarity difference between isocyanate and PDMS, it is necessary to advantageous structure of PDMS to overcome the limitation in PU with siloxane synthesis. In this study, 2-((5-butyl-1,1,3,3,5,5-hexamethyltrisiloxanyl)oxy)propane-1,3-diol PDMS of various molecular weights, having both hydrophilicity (hydroxyl (diol)) and hydrophobicity (butyl), were synthesized by anionic ring opening polymerization. As the amount of initiator increased, it was confirmed that the molecular weight and the viscosity increased. In addition, the resulting PDMS derivatives in various temperature were analyzed by NMR, GPC, viscometer, and FT-IR. |
