Covalent Organic Framework-based Electrocatalysts for Promotion of ORR and OER in Zn-Air Batteries |

We developed a cobalt nanoparticle immobilized pyridine-linked covalent organic framework (CoNP-pyCOF) to enhance oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in Zn-air batteries. CoNP-pyCOF exhibited a hierarchical porous structure with well-defined active sites and micro/mesopores. Incorporation of cobalt nanoparticles (CoNP) provoked a change in its electronic structure, lowing the p-band center via charge transfer. The prepared CoNP-pyCOF showed high electrocatalytic activities for ORR and OER and also had superior stability as compared to Pt/C or RuO2 electrocatalysts. Theoretical calculations revealed that the carbon atoms in the pyridinic moiety were the active sites for both ORR and OER. Furthermore, a Zn-Air battery composed of CoNP-pyCOF had comparable charge-discharge performance and better stability than that of Pt/C and RuO2 electrocatalysts. |
