Nafion is the most dominating material as a proton exchange membrane (PEM) in PEM fuel cells (PEMFCs) and PEM water electrolyzers (PEMWEs) due to its high conductivity, and excellent physicochemical stability. However, a high hydrogen crossover still has to be resolved for long-term durability. In this work, polydopamine, sulfonated polydopamine and their copolymers were used as fillers to prepare a Nafion composite membranes. It was expected that these filler polymers would reduce the hydrogen crossover, whilst maintaining or enhancing the original properties of Nafion. The experimental procedures, chemophysical and electrical properties, as well as fuel cell and water electrolyzer cell performances, of these Nafion composite membranes will be discussed. |
