제목 Determination of Order-Disorder Transition of Polystyrene-block-poly(n-pentyl methacrylate) Copolymer by Temperature-dependent FTIR Spectroscopy
초록 The phase transitions of polystyrene-block-poly(n-pentyl methacrylate) (PS-PnPMA) have been investigated by temperature-dependent Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy with principal component analysis (PCA) and two-dimensional (2D) correlation spectroscopy. PS-PnPMA was shown to exhibit a closed loop type phase behavior, where, upon heating, a disorder-to-order transition (LDOT) was found at lower temperature, and an upper order-to-disorder transition (UODT) was observed at higher temperature. There two transitions can be determined from sudden changes of the absorbance (A) at specific wavelength as a function of temperature (T). We found that when the first derivative of absorbance with respective to temperature (dA/dT) is plotted against temperature, the maximum in dA/dT at all wavelengths was observed at these two transitions. Interestingly, these two temperatures are very similar to these reported previously using small-angle X-ray scattering, rheometry, and depolarized light scattering. The temperature dependence of FTIR spectra from C-C-O group (1200-1270 cm-1) and principal component analysis (PCA) indicate that the conformation of disordered state at lower temperature is different from that of another disordered state at higher temperature. By using two-dimensional (2D) correlation spectroscopy, we can analyze systematic patterns of subtle spectral changes induced by an external perturbation that are not noticeable in conventional 1D spectra. We observed the splitting of C-H deformation bands (1300-1380 cm-1)
