Graphene Quantum Dots as effective dispersants for Carbon Nanotubes |

Outstanding electrical properties of multi walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) have attracted much attention for applications in opto-electronics. Achieving well dispersed MWCNTs in solutions and polymer matrices is the key to maximize the utility of MWCNTs. Herein, we present graphene quantum dots (GQDs) as dispersants for MWCNTs in ethanol for fabrication of highly conductive MWCNT films. GQDs were bound to the MWCNT surface through p-p interactions and their dispersion stabilities were quantitatively compared to those of MWCNTs coated with organic surfactants such as PVP and SDS. Such organic surfactants have been widely employed as dispersants to improve the dispersion stability of MWCNTs, however, due to their insulating nature, the organic surfactants could not maintain the high electrical conductivity of MWCNTs. Therefore, we believe that the GQD can be used as an excellent tool for achieving stable MWCNT dispersion and highly conductive MWCNT films. |
