Sirolimus is used in DES as a drug for suppressing restenosis. However, it has some drawbacks; high cost, late stent thrombosis and nonselective cytotoxicity. Phytoncide, a volatile substance released from trees and plants, has many promising effects. In particular, monoterpenoids such as α-pinene, careen, and myrceen in phytoncide have been known as compounds with anti-oxidative and anti-microbial activity. Hence, we evaluated phytoncide as a substitute of sirolimus. Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA)/phytoncide coating on stainless steel was prepared by electrospray. Coating surface was confirmed by SEM. Phytoncide and sirolimus demonstrated no significant difference of cytotoxicity on smooth muscle cell (SMC). Moreover, PLGA/phytoncide carried a smooth surface and showed an inhibitory effect on platelet adhesion. |
