Highly Accessible Detection Route of Pesticide in Solution and Solid Platform via a Zwitterionic Conjugated Polymer |

A zwitterionic conjugated polymer derivative of polyfluorene (ZIPF) was synthesized via oxidative polymerization method and later modified through post-polymerization functionalization method for the rapid, highly accessible, and selective detection of a pesticide namely diquat (DQ). The polymer ZIPF bears zwitterionic side chains and displayed remarkably high photoluminescence stability over a wide pH range (1 - 13). Polymer ZIPF demonstrated simultaneous detection and degradation of pesticide DQ in water as well as on the portable test strips. A rapid and highly selective fluorescence “Turn-On” response was achieved for DQ even in the presence of various other interfering analytes. We demonstrate that the ZIPF-based platform can be an effective tool for simultaneous detection and degradation of DQ in contaminated water. The sensing mechanism will be proposed with analysis of UV, PL, and LC-MS in this work. |
