제목 | 2D Janus amphiphilic peptide nanosheets for ice recrystallization inhibition |
초록 | Mimetic cryoprotectants that imitate ice-binding proteins (IBPs) using peptides or polymers have been of huge interest in that they endow organisms with freezing resistance. These cryoprotectants have been developed by adopting ice-binding moieties of IBPs, however, their ice recrystallization inhibition (IRI) ability has been reported only in the sight of interaction between ice-binding moieties and ice crystal surfaces. Thus, we focused on a larger scale to drive IRI improvement. Amphiphilic peptides capable of the formation of the two-dimensional (2D) structure in aqueous solution are self-assembled and then enhanced IRI can be derived from the asymmetrically controlled 2D arrangement of ice-binding moieties anchoring water and hydrophobic domains repelling water. Furthermore, the large contact area resulting from a 2D structure can lead to more H-bonds, thereby they further improve IRI and can be utilized for cryopreservation of cells and tissues. |
