제목 Size engineering of perfluorinated sulfonic acid ionomers via supercritical dispersion and its application for fuel cells and water electrolysis
초록 Perfluorinated sulfonic acid (PFSA) ionomers have been perceived as powerful membrane and electrode binder materials for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells and water electrolysis. These membranes and electrodes should satisfy fairly different requirements associated with gas permeation, even though identical PFSA ionomers are used for the formation of stable interface between membrane and electrode layers. PFSA membranes should have hydrogen permeation as low as possible. Meanwhile, PFSA electrode binders must show fast oxygen permeation. In this study, size engineering of PFSA ionomers was carried out in environmentally friendly co-solvent systems via supercritical dispersion techniques. The fundamental characteristics of both membranes and binders were systematically correlated with size characteristics of PFSA ionomer nanoparticles. The electrochemical effectiveness of this strategy was disclosed by applying them to fuel cells and water electrolysis applications.
