For developing pH-sensitive optode membranes, a functionalized push-pull conjugate dye was synthesized and covalently immobilized on a sol-gel membrane (M1) and a HEMA-based polymer membrane (M2), respectively. Both membranes were examined in terms of photophysical properties, responsive pH range, stability and response time. Optode membranes M1 and M2 exhibited fluorescence emission and ratiometric absorbance changes in the acidic pH range. The fluorescence intensities of the membranes increased with increasing pH in the same acidic pH range. M1 has a wider pH response range but less sensitive to the pH change compared with M2. The optode membranes were also reproducible, stable and had a reasonable response time in the operating pH range. The synthesis and immobilization of the dye, and the fabrication and pH-sensing properties of the membranes will be presented. |
